Review: Legend by Marie Lu

Legend - Marie Lu

Well, well, well. I had some high expectations about Legend and I'm happy to say that I wasn't thoroughly disappointed. Let me elaborate.

This book was pretty good, I've heard so many amazing things about Marie Lu's outstanding trilogy, so I was eager to start reading it. My main issue with the story was the world-building, it kind of reminded me of Matched in that matter. There's a lot of unknown information about what led the USA to become "The Republic", about the sectors and the electors. Some things were very vague, and some overly described, like the clothes. I hope that everything is explained in the upcoming books.

Now, with the characters. We have two amazing characters here, and we get to read from both's point of views. It was so refreshening to read from different povs, specially since these two characters; Day and June were both badass. Daniel a.k.a "Day" was The Republic's most wanted criminal. He was a modern Robin Hood, and he always looked up for the poor people and for his family. His love towards his family was overwhelming, I loved his relationship with his brothers. He was so honest, clever, good and sexy.

June was our heroine. She was born in The Republic, which means she was rich. She was so smart, intuitive, passionate and somehow annoying. What? She made me roll my eyes whenever she deducted something from minimal clues or observation, like "Are you a fucking mentalist?" and "Of course only you would see that". But overall I liked her. I enjoyed her development in the story.

About the romance? It was amazing. Yes, it was insta-love, and I tend to hate those, but in this case I loved it. They feel like they balance and complete each other.

This book reminded me so much to The Hunger Games, which is a compliment. I loved how sketchy it got at some parts, and I'm addicted to the whole government scheming against the citizens thing. Marie Lu did an excellent job!

So Legend was full of intrigue, action, love, sacrifice, forgiveness and survival. What's not to like? A pretty decent dystopia story that will captivate you from beginning to end. Now, where's my copy of Prodigy????
